Atlanta Drifting History

Here at Team Rowdy, we look at Atlanta’s drifting history in two time periods, Before Rowdy and After Rowdy. Drifting first splashed onto the scene in this city at a race track over an hour outside the city. No, I’m not talking about Road Atlanta. Team Orange did demos in 2003 at Atlanta Motor Speedway for NOPI Nationals as the APC drift team a year before Formula D kicked off at Road Atlanta.

We consider ourselves lucky to have been exposed to drifting in our backyard that was heavily influenced by Japanese drivers. In 2004 the Signal Auto drivers did demos at NOPI Nationals. In the early years of Formula D, many of the Japanese dudes we looked up to competed in cars built in Japan. We were super stoked to meet Haruguchi in 2007. Unfortunately, we don’t have a series of DVDs to document drifting here. We’re going to do our best to cover what we can.
